Dr Justin Carter

What conditions do I treat?

The heart and vascular system is pretty much at the centre of it all!
Consequently, diseases of the heart (and vascular system) really can call all sorts of symptoms - the commonest being:
  • Chest Pain
  • Breathlessness
  • Inability to exert yourself
  • Fatigue
  • Palpitations
  • Light headed spells or Blackout
  • Ankle swelling

Having listened to your symptoms and examined you, the sorts of test commonly done at the same visit are:
  • ECG (Electrocardiogram) - Heart Tracing
  • Echocardiogram - Heart Ultrasound scan
  • Exercise ECG - Heart tracing during exertion
  • Holter Monitor - Extended heart tracing (24-72Hrs)
  • Blood and Urine tests

More advanced tests (such as a Cardiac CT, MRI, coronary angiogram, loop recorder or pacemaker etc) will usually follow the initial appointment.

The kinds of conditions that I’m looking for and treating are:
  • Coronary Heart Disease - cause angina and heart attack
  • Heart Failure - causing breathlessness
  • Arrhythmia - heart rhythms causing palpitations/ blackout
  • Valvular heart disease - causing breathlessness
  • Prevention - reducing elevated heart disease risk
